“…Early June in Denali National Park and Preserve is still cool and has yet to see the warmer days of mid-summer. For the fur bearers this is a blessing as they are still maintaining their plush winter coats. This beautiful Interior Grizzly sow takes a rest from continually grazing on the new growth in the tundra. With over 20 hours of sunshine she has plenty of daylight to consume the much needed food she’ll need to prepare for next winter’s slumber. She will eat away all her waking hours for her next denning. Though no cubs were with her this season she may reach estrus by the end of summer and mate with a suitable boar. During winter she will cub in the den and nurture them into spring when they will emerge into a strange new world covered with snow and bent on survival, a new generation of Interior Grizzlies to carry on…”
