"Alpenglow"

 “…One of the rarest mountain lighting phenomena across our earth is the rich and stunning alpenglow sweet-light of an early winter sunset.  When conditions are perfect for such atmospheric lighting the outcome can be otherworldly.  Here in the heart of Denali National Park, right after a September snowfall, a small gap in the northwestern sky on the horizon allowed the already setting sun to bend its sweet light through the atmosphere.  The central north-face massifs of Carpe Ridge, Pioneer Ridge, the 19,470 ft. north summit of Denali and the sheer Wickersham Wall below it, 17,400 ft. Mt. Foraker to the far right, and all the radial peaks and valleys became blanketed with intensely vibrant and rare alpenglow.  The dark storm clouds in the south lend stark contrast to the brightly lit ice and snow..."
