Goddess Of Dawn

Goddess Of Dawn

Alaska Aurora Photography

An intense, once-in-a-lifetime pink and violet curtain cascades down the eastern morning sky, the Big Dipper standing watch as it blankets the snow-capped Western Chugach Mountains and reflects in the cold clear river below. The aurora's name — Dawn's Goddess — could not be more perfectly earned by this extraordinary display.

About This Photograph

“AurorA-Goddess of Dawn"

“…An intense, once-in-a-lifetime pink & violet curtain cascades down the eastern morning sky in vivid tribute to Aurora, the Goddess of Dawn. Ursa Major (The Big Dipper) stands on edge beside the enchanting lights as the rare gathering of colors blanket the snow capped peaks of the Western Chugach Mountains, reflecting in the cold, clear waters of a river braid. This extremely rare aurora is the outcome of a massive solar event off our sun on October 26th, 2003. Auroral displays covered the earth in the northern and southern Polar Regions for several days, sometimes dancing across the night skies over landmasses closer to the equator. Rare pink auroras like this hardly occur only once or twice every ten to twelve years. The last aurora of this magnitude enveloped our skies on March 13-14th, 1989 and was powerful enough to knock out electricity for millions of Canadians…”
