“…At high latitudes, for short periods in spring and fall, “true night” does not exist. Nautical and astronomical twilight both converge in an elite play-of-light that is like no other. It is this unique transitional interval which allows a rich view of the Heavens but also has dusk twilight persisting through dawn. At the midpoint nearing solar midnight, there is a brief time when celestial events may blend and merge into an enchanted vista. Here, twilight silhouettes the great peaks of Mt. Foraker, Hunter and Denali in the central Alaska Range, as a quarter moon and Venus begin to set in the northwest. Rapidly adding to the mix, auroral curtains began to dance high above Earth, painting the collection of light with rare violets beyond the common greens.
