Over those many years’ high winds, rain and snow have blasted the trees relentlessly, stripping them of branches and smoothing their trunks. Here wolf tracks lead off through the “branchless” sentinels, vanishing in the distant spruce forest on the mountainside. The last snowfall packed against the windward sides of the trunks.
