The intensities, colors & shapes of auroral displays are directly related to each Solar Cycle’s output. The comparison above shows the decline of Cycle #21, one of the largest on record, when on any clear to partly cloudy night aurora displays were vivid & powerful. Even when cloudy, the clouds were backlit with the colors of auroral displays above. Sadly I began photographing aurora during the waning years of that cycle. Cycles #22 & #23, (1989 & 2001 Solar Maximums) though not as large geomagnetically as Cycle #21, had several of the largest X-class solar flares & auroral displays on record. By comparison, Cycle #24 was exceptionally weak, though there were a handful of beautiful auroral displays across the world.

The coming solar-storm output of our massive star & subsequent auroral events above Earth for the remainder of Solar Cycle #25 are absolutely unpredictable. Foraker (17,400 ft.), Mt. Hunter (14,573 ft.) and Denali (20,310 ft.). Denali's first original height estimate was made in 1901 by geologist Alfred Brooks at 20,464 feet. Later, in 1953, Bradford Washburn using photogrammetry, established a standard estimate of 20,320 feet was generally accepted. By 2013 the USGS using radar established a measurement of 20,237 feet. And finally, in 2015, the USGS using more accurate GPS technology established a measurement of 20,210 feet, a figure accepted as of present day.
